If you’ve ever tried to find free oilfield images for a blog post, presentation, or marketing material, you’ve probably run into the same problem we have—good ones are hard to come by. Stock photo sites either have generic, overly polished images or charge an arm and a leg for something that barely represents the reality of working in the field.

That’s why we’ve decided to do something about it.

After years of working on service rigs across Western Canada, we’ve collected a massive amount of authentic oilfield photos. Instead of keeping them buried in old hard drives, we’re making them available to anyone who needs themfor free.

A Collection of Real-World Oilfield Photography

The OilTrails Free Oilfield Images Gallery is a growing collection of photos that showcase the real work, real conditions, and real equipment used in the oil and gas industry. These aren’t over-edited stock photos taken by someone who has never stepped foot on a lease. These are genuine, on-the-ground shots from the rigs, roads, and sites where we work every day.

These images are completely free to use for:

✔ Blog posts and industry articles
✔ Social media updates
✔ Oilfield training materials
✔ Newsletters and reports
✔ Any other goodwill-based use

Why We’re Doing This

We’ve been in the same position as many oil and gas bloggers, industry professionals, and content creators—needing a good oilfield image and coming up short.

Most of the free images available online are either outdated, low resolution, or completely unrealistic. We wanted to create a better option, one that reflects the real working conditions and the people who keep the industry moving.

If our gallery helps even one person find the right image for their next post, it’s worth it.

A Few Things to Keep in Mind

We’ve done our best to ensure that:

Faces are obscured to protect privacy (other than a few of our own team members)
Active company branding has been removed
Images are high-resolution and clear

The only thing we ask in return is proper attribution—a simple backlink to our website when you use an image. You can find full details on how to credit us on the gallery page.

Want to Contribute Your Own Oilfield Photos?

If you have authentic oilfield images you’d like to share for others to use freely, we’d love to add them to the collection! Whether it’s rig shots, equipment, lease roads, or anything else related to the industry, let’s make this a go-to resource for quality oilfield images.
